Day 15 - Your Nearness
“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
What a great day. God is good. I saw the daily text from the devo I have and the song was goodness of God. Seems very fitting. God seemed to reveal himself to me over and over again today. So grateful. I woke up and felt much better today. Had my normal breakfast of beef stick, clog bar, and snickers and my stomach seemed to take it just fine. I took awhile to get going. I didn’t really want to ride today. But once I was going I was happy to. Around 8 miles in I started really to hit the climb. I got warm pretty quickly but it felt nice to sweat. The views were just unbelievable. I still can’t believe this place is real. I got lots of stares from people in cars. One guy looked at me like: 😧so I did that back to him. I started to descend and saw a majestic bighorn sheep. Unreal. Kept going down and saw a moose. A little nerve racking but just made sure I gave it plenty of space. Then I saw a bear too! Got to call mom for a bit with cell going in and out and was in the middle of a massive area that was burned. Got to talk to Papa and Caleb going down. Once I got to Jasper I was able to get to a gas station (next one is 130 miles away) and got to a bike shop for what should be my final tune up. Met Craig and Josh and Lindsey. So fun talking with them. I got some Tim Hortons as they worked on my bike and called Mom and Dad. Got going after quite some time but it felt good to get a little bit of a break. Tailwinds felt really nice and a little downhill too. Got to talk to Laura and her sister. So fun. Called Mom and Dad as I left Jasper. Climbed one last time and then as I got to the top Ainsley texted. I was about 2 miles away from my campsite and couldn’t decide what to do. I called her and we both agreed I should do another 7. It was a good call. Got to chat with her all the way to the campsite as I rode past a beaver and 2 deer. Also passed I cow moose descending into Jasper which makes 1 bighorn sheep, 2 moose, 2 deer, 1 beaver, and 1 bear all in a day! God is good. I finally made it to the campsite and met Felix. As I walked back and was setting up camp, his wife and daughter, Anne and Peet came and just gave me a bowl of salad! No questions asked expecting nothing in return. What generosity. God is good. Caught up on everything and heading to bed. Excited and nervous tomorrow. Praying that I will have peace through it all. Pics will all be updated later :(
Today's ride: 157 miles (253 km)
Total: 2,147 miles (3,455 km)
