Another wonderful day in Italy. Another day - another Colle! This was a tough climb as quite steep again (9.7 miles, 3556’) of course and we learned from a local that it is the smoke from Canada obscuring the view. Col de Joux is “an alpine pass located between the municipalities of Saint-Vincent and Brusson at an altitude of 1640 meters. The hill connects the central valley of Dora Baltea with the Val d'Ayas and more precisely the town of Saint-Vincent with the town of Brusson. It opens between Testa di Comagna and Cima Botta (2,042 m asl), a secondary peak of Monte Zerbion. The hill has a ski area, a dense forest and also a path that, with its 25 km, leads to the water intake of Ru Cortaud.”
It was warm but not terrible at altitude but as we came down, stifling hot. Thank goodness for gelato!
So much of this route was in The Giro d’Italia so we had some lovely fresh paved roads and all the towns were still decorated with pink bikes and flowers,it’s fun to see the community pride.
