What a dream come true! I hate to admit it but my first memory of the Matterhorn was the Disneyland ride and I had assumed it was a made up thing like Cinderella’s castle. I’m not sure when I realized it was a real mountain (and I think I assumed it was in Switzerland) but the Matterhorn has always had this mythical essence to it. When we saw this tour and it listed the Matterhorn, I couldn’t believe that this could possibly be something I could do. With my back issues, I think I don’t think I even looked at the route so being on the bike in the road and seeing the mountain in the distance and knowing I had a chance, simply made me teary.
I had left early to avoid the heat and to
be able to take my time. I admit I was struggling and Brody caught me when I thought there was still another 3 miles of strenuous climbing to go and was pretty discouraged. Brody hugged me and gave me the news that we only had 200’ left and gave me the energy lift I needed and it seems like we simply turned a corner and there it was in it’s glory. Pinch me!
