Val D’Aosta day 0- Courmayeur -Val Veny out and back
Wow what a start
Holy cow! Day 1 of new tour and we are gob smacked. If you like Mountain View’s, the beauty here is just surreal and blow your mind stuff. We started off on bus ride from Turin and after 30 minutes, just had to sit and look out the windows. We drove up the valley to Courmayeur and we will work our way back down the valley during the next 10 days. It had been scheduled to rain but held off so we snuck in a fast ride knowing we might only have an hour after we had bikes assembled. There were two choices and I chose quickly and poorly(very steep). Brody didn’t argue. The scenery was breathtaking and we are quickly seeing the pattern of each upcoming day- ride uphill until you get to a gravel path then turn around and ride back! The steepness was intimidating and I managed about 3 painful miles which gained about 1000! Most was a steady 11% grade which is above my pay grade for much more than 1/2 mile. Rain was imminent and didn’t want to be soaked so turned back at that point but so glad we went.
