Sleeuwijk
Thursday
Today, I'm headed to my friends Ashley and Annemieke's home. But before I left Utrecht I wanted to see some of Gerrit Reitveld's architecture. He has a few modernist residential structures in Utrecht. I modified a walking tour so I could see them on two wheels. Reitveld was of the De Stijl school. Mondrian was probably its most popular proponent.

I pedaled out of Utrecht and its suburbs along canals, passing dikes and eventually back into the polders (low-lying land protected by dykes), fields and cows. It was a glorious day for riding weather wise. My route put me through the town of Vianen and its Medieval gate.
I stopped for the Dutch equivalent of a sausage roll in Vianen. They kicked it up a notch.
After lunch I continued toward Ashley. I tootled around Gorinchem before riding over the Nieuwe Merwede, a canal adjacent to the A27. This was the most unpleasant riding so far, but by American standards, it was a bunt. I was quickly in Sleeuwijk.
Today's ride: 34 miles (55 km)
Total: 94 miles (151 km)
