Bike:

Bacchetta Giro 20 short wheelbase recumbent. 10 years old with 50,000 miles.
Euro-Mesh seat with Ventisit seat pad.
Terracycle underseat rack.
Arkel RT-40 underseat panniers.
Rear wheel is hand-built 26 inch Velocity Aeroheat rim, 36 butted spokes, Shimano SLX hub.
Front wheel is hand-built 20 inch Velocity Aeroheat rim, 32 butted spokes, Shimano SLX hub.
Tires are 40mm wide Schwalbe Marathon.
Gearing is the low. 24/39/48 tooth chainrings. 11-34 tooth 9-speed cassette.
Four bottle cages. Two behind the seat. Two that I added to the front.
Insulated Kleen Kanteen on the handlebar riser.
Crank Brothers pedals and Keen SPD sandals.
VDO MC 1.0 altimeter cyclocomputer, measures total ascent.
The loaded bike weighs about 70 pounds. 32 kg.
Without panniers the bike is about 40 pounds. 18 kg.
The bike is highly visible with orange mesh, fluorescent yellow strips, and flasher always on.

How many years have you had the RT-40"s? Did you previously tour with both a rear rack and an underseat rack?

Wayne EstesI bought the RT-40 panniers in 2006, a year after I moved to Oregon. Before that I used rear panniers only, with a lot of stuff piled on the rear rack. From 2006-2013 I had front and rear panniers.
