Day 59 - In Varenna
Homeostasis
If you’re looking for great tales and pictures of cycling, I’d suggest that you move right along and skip this page.
When we planned this tour we were considering doing an unloaded loop ride taking in the famous Ghisallo chapel. Over the last few weeks and in particular the last few days, it became clear that this was going to be a full on rest day. The exclamation point was put on that yesterday as we made it to the top of the hill we’re on and looked down on the town of Varenna and Lake Como.
We’re not going anywhere.
After breakfast, which was in a small restaurant about 100 m from our apartment, we returned to The Hill House and set up shop on a table in the garden overlooking the lake. I was pretty far behind on this blog, the internet was dreadfully slow, as was the phone connection surprisingly, so expectations were adjusted accordingly and the day was spent casually getting some words and pictures on the pages, all the while watching the sail boats and ferries on Lake Como and listening to the birds singing in the trees.
It was a pretty nice day, and a good transition to the final few days of this tour.
We're only about 50 km’s north of Somma Lombardo, our start and end point, but we’re going to take 5 days to get there after going to lake Maggiore and Lake Orta in a leisurely procession. It’s going to be very much like a large jet coming in for landing after a trans Atlantic flight, slow, steady and hopefully very little drama.
I’ve written more than enough for a day where not much physically happened, but we were recharged and reset for the finale of this tour
