Day 11 - In Pesaro

Little bit of this, little bit of that

Yes, another day off, what gives?

I’m blaming this on the ferries. We were originally going to be sailing to Split today on the Croatian Jadrolinija line but they decided to just cancel today’s sailing a few weeks ago. It appeared that their next sailing we could book was in May. The only other company that sails the Ancona to Split route is the Italian company SNAV and we managed to book a sailing on 23rd April, two days later than our original plan.

As noted earlier, we added our little side trip to Ravenna to fill up the additional two days so we just shifted everything after Longiano by two days and lost two days in Croatia. Since our original plan had a day off in Pesaro we just decided to stay with that. The only change was that we were  going to do the lovely park ride we did yesterday as a day ride, but since that was now old news we had to find something new to do today. Confused? Probably, but no bother, just read on.

So how did we fill another down day? A little work on the blog, a little laundry, a little wandering and a little riding. All that can fill a day without much trouble.

The ride was a nice combination of city riding / exploring with some countryside riding along the Foglio river.

Not much more to say about the day, I’ll let the pics talk. The next two days are going to be about as challenging as today, each one about 30 km’s. Tomorrow we’ve got another OTT dinner planned in Marzocca, which is about half way between here and Ancona, and the next day, well we’ve got that ferry to catch, so we’ll do the second half. Hence two big 30 km days coming up.

We’ll pay the price soon enough when we get back into mountainous terrain, but for now we’re just enjoying ‘la dolce vita’.

Our day ride started out with a cruise through the harbour. We always like to see working harbours in these seaside towns. Although ‘beach life’ dominates now, the fishing harbours have been the historic lifeblood of places like this

Looks like they’re catching a lot of big Russian fish now though. Pretty extensive yacht building underway

Yesterday’s ride from a different perspective

A closer look at some of the yachts under construction. We’re still over 500 m away and these things are huge

Now we’re riding up the Foglio river. Beautiful country just a few km’s out of Pesaro

Scott AndersonIt is lovely in the interior here. If we're ever back to Pesaro I'd like to make an overnight loop up to Urbino.

Back in town for a post ride bevy in the main square. Italian style on display, take your pick!

There was a flea market underway in the square too. There’s times I wish we weren’t on bikes … this was one.

A lighter, simpler dinner tonight. I thought I’d order some type of an eggplant dish. Great mistake, this was much better!

Noodles (who’s specific name I can’t remember, but very similar in size and texture to Udon) with pancetta and shrimp. We also shared an insalata mista to get some greens into us.

Snow by Angus & Julia Stone

This song is as mellow and ambitious as we were today. Oh yeah, it snowed again in Canmore today. Sorry.

That’s it, another lovely day in Pesaro
