More of the Netherlands famous weather….

Almere to Muiden

Towel Tuesday started out per the usual Netherlands weather..rain, wind, gloomy.  Towel Tuesday was the bright spot because it meant new clean towels on the barge.  At the time, this was about the only “sunny” thing…

Let’s begin..

At the “too early to stop” for coffee in Almere, we all begged for a break out of the torrential rain. This Schep bakery was open so some of us were able to dry off for now…

Two police officers patrolling the outside mall of Almere centraal..Ironically they chided ( and stopped) a man on a bicycle he was not allowed to ride here! ( to be fair, they did get off their bikes…)

Cindy..One of the guides who replaced the two we lost to covid and a cold..She is the wife of the bicycle rental company owner. Good thing she knows how to change a flat tire!

Steve Miller/GrampiesUnique Dutch rain chaps. We tried them once but gave up on them.

Karen PoretTo Steve Miller/GrampiesI think only the Dutch wear them. No one in the group had any. Most were weather wimps like me who wear full raingear pants and jacket.. especially a hood! The guide only wears a baseball cap! 🤫

As it was still raining, ( of course) another cyclist lent his stronger ( then) hands…mission accomplished!

At the beginning of the stop in Naarden at the Vesting Museum was this informative plaque. I know it’s not one of my “goats”, but close enough! Yak!

In the shop area there were several items for sale depicting the items used in “the old days”. Somehow I doubt this feather is “that old”…

This corner shop was a lifeline for me! I wandered off alone from everyone else who was visiting the Vesting Museum. I found postage stamps, lovely cards, and a mailbox just across the street! Sweet!!

Rest spot in the drizzle on the river Vecht. Bridge is Anno 1888..Good omen year..lots of crazy eights!

Waiting for the bridge to lower in Binnenstad. We promptly rode over it afterwards, only needing to make a turn around in the same direction! Such is the life in the day of a guide who read the map wrong, as we have all certainly done!

Free water “fountain”..The blue obstacles are placed throughout the Netherlands to fill up your water bottles. Tasty and clean is much appreciated!

Bridge over the IJsselmeer, as seen from my stopping point ahead of the group, in Muiden.

Muiderslot Castle, in Muiden. This was the first time the sun began to peek out during the entire ride. We were almost done for the day, fortunately. The wind was so brutal I seriously had to stop twice to keep myself upright and not prone..
