I hear that train a coming

After 10 seconds of deep thought we decided not to cross the central range by bicycle on this trip. The Kaohsiung train station was within 200 metres of our hotel, and express trains to Taitung on the east coast run from Kaohsiung depart every few hours.

It was blessedly easy to bag our bikes on Platform 1 of the TRA Central Station, board the train, stash the bags behind a seat and two hours later we were cycling around in laid back Taitung on the south east coast.

We are getting faster. It took about 10 minutes to convert our two bikes into a pile of bags

Great day for sightseeing through the train window

The mountains we avoided riding over. Instead we went under them.

Many, many hectares of aquaculture on the west coast south of Kaohsiung

The east coast. Very similar to New Zealand’s South Island west coast

Helpful sign at the Taitung Rail Station. There were several other cycle tourers at the Station
