I need a vacation to recover from getting ready for vacation

Waiting for the fun to start...

My stuff, neatly packed into 2 small cases. I’m trying hard not to overpack. My furry overlord, Mitten, keeps me in line.

Jim’s stuff, loosely packed into 3 cases. He is bigger, and so his stuff is bigger, so he needs more luggage space, so he says.

It is 3 days before we depart for Washington State and everything is finally coming together: Housesitter confirmed - check; Bikes are ready-check; Packing done - well, mostly...a few more things need to go in; Car is ready for the drive-tuned, new tires and brakes-check; House is clean - check, well except for the very final cleaning; Jim and I are well trained and tapered-check for Jim but for me, not so much. I have had a tough winter and early spring health wise but have been feeling much better the last few weeks.

I sometimes envy our petless friends who can drop everything at a moment’s notice and travel. On the other hand, our pets give us a lot of joy and, in the case of our dog, unconditional love. Our fuzzy overlord, well, he loves us on his terms. But we do have to coordinate their care while we are away from home. For us, that means hiring a housesitter to live in our house while we are gone and take care of them.

Because we tend to do our tours in early summer and because I neurotically cannot leave the house for someone else to live in without cleaning it, I have spent the last two weeks spring cleaning, the real deep stuff. Between that and setting up my summer garden and general living obligations and, oh yes, training, I am exhausted. I can’t wait for this vacation to start.
