Epilogue

Seen in Seattle

We came home a day earlier than expected. On June 18th, while we were sitting having coffee with our Seattle friend, Wendy, I received a text from my house/petsitter that she had a family emergency and would need to leave later that day, if at all possible. I called my in-laws and arranged for them to go to the house a few times to take out our dog and feed her later on the 18th and the 19th. But they were then leaving town on the 20th so we immediately packed up to hurry home. So just like that, we called short our visit with Wendy and Vince and vacation ended.

It was overall a very relaxed trip. We all agreed that the days were short on miles. Some of this was dictated by the ferry schedules - you might of noticed, we rode a lot of ferries. They added a time-consuming parameter into the days where one was involved. Weather, or concern about weather, was another variable although, in the end, we had spectacular weather after day 3. But the days may have be planned to be shorter because of the concern for rain.

The e-bikes performed spectacularly. Touring on them was more fun than touring on a regular bike. No more worries about climbs, wind and weight. No more exhaustion at the end of the day. But on the other side of that, I experienced minimal increase in fitness over the course of the tour and was unable to eat with my usual abandon during the tour (probably not good to do that anyway but still...), and I am still trying to decide, maybe I have a little less feeling of satisfaction in completing the tour due to it being less of a challenge.

We all liked the lodging where we stayed for a few days and did day-rides or sight-seeing, as opposed to always being on the move. As Jim and I considered where to go next year, I proposed an option where we drive from place to place and stay however long to ride and see the place in detail. As usual, we finished up this year's trip with absolutely no idea where we are going next year. Something we need to work on.

Again thank you all for reading and experiencing this adventure with us!

Scott AndersonAnd thank you! And if you come back this way some year, be careful of those floating bridges. My best friend lost the tip of his nose at the end of our tour down the coast fifty years ago when his front wheel dropped into an expansion joint on the Mercer Island floating bridges five mile from home.

Ellen WalkerI love reading and following your adventures. Can’t wait for the next one. The pictures were great and the commentary always spot on. I read some of the entries to Jayden and he kid approved as well LOL. After the heat this summer, you need to get to Vegas and see this kid. He’ll be as tall as Jim before we know it. Love you all!
