Day 11- Mt Baw Baw

The planned ride was up Mt Baw Baw and then onto Noojee but the weather in a word, sucked. When we got to the start point it was 5C and raining. With 700+m to ride in altitude the temperature was only going to drop below freezing in fact it was snowing at the top. Therefore, the ride to the top did NOT happen. Some people rode down to Noojee in pretty bad conditions. I considered it but we had another 2 hour bus ride once down and I didn’t want to sit in wet clothing so I decided to just stay in the bus. Below describes what we were supposed to do but didn’t.
Mount Baw Baw is about 120 kilometres (75 miles) east of Melbourne and 50 km (31 mi) north of the Latrobe Valley. The mountain itself is one of several peaks on the Baw Baw Plateau, a long plateau tending north-east. The plateau itself is isolated from most of Victoria's high country by several rivers to the south. There is relatively little relief on the plateau itself, the highest point reaching 1,567 metres (5,141 feet).
The access road to the resort, the Mount Baw Baw Tourist Road, features one of the toughest climbs accessible by road bicycles in Australia. The final climb of 6.2 kilometres rises 718 metres at an average grade of 11.5%, maxing out at 20.3%.[8] The climb is not as long as, but considerably steeper than, any of the hors catégorieclimbs featured in the Tour de France.
Once we reached Marysville we settled in for the night and went off to dinner. On the way there we drove through black spur pass without a problem but our van with the bikes was stopped by a fallen tree. Today was not a great way to start a
