El Paso to Columbus
After the late arrival into El Paso I was woken by the sun just after 0600 so went in search of coffee and to make a start on unboxing Wally. The hotel coffee was plentiful, free and dire.
Wally came out of the box without injury and by the time Karolina appeared for breakfast, the racks were on and we'd done a test ride in the car park.
We both needed gas and supplies so set off to the nearest sports shop followed by my first Walmart experience. Not only were there too many options, the package size was way too big, so the shopping took ages. We followed that fun up with lunch at a mexican restaurant and then back to wait for our shuttle to Columbus.
Our driver and host for the night is Philip from Los Milagros Hotel in Columbus who is single handedly putting CoIumbus on the map as a rival to Antelope Wells as a start or finish point to GDMBR.
As Philip points out there are many reasons to choose Columbus over AW, not least the hotel and 2 restaurants VS zero anything but the border fence at AW.
There is now a plaque in place near the Point of Entry sign and we were the first to stand beside it to mark the start of our north bound adventure.
