A Quasi rest day

Paddy’s River Falls to Tumbarumba

It was quite cool overnight making me zip my sleeping bag up completely for the first time. I had two merino layers on and was comfortably warm but slept poorly despite the babbling brook’s vain attempt to lull me into slumber.

I was up by 7am and despite the heavy dew found some dry enough kindling to get the fire going. We were definitely in go slow mode. It was only an hour and a half’s riding to get to Tumbarumba and have a decent rest before our last three days into Bungendore. There was no rush to pack up.

Matt was nice enough to let us use his timber and fire pit.

An intense discussion on the relative merits of Vegemite, Promite and Marmite was followed by a tangential discussion on whether they should refrigerated or not (they should). We eventually  headed off.

There was a short sharp climb immediately on leaving the campsite followed by more undulations before we landed in Tumbarumba in time for second breakfast.

And that folks was our short day in the saddle. Much of the action happened around the morning campfire over breakfast with my insistence that Vegemite is fine left out of the fridge but the problem is when you butter the toast and use the same knife to spread it and thus leave remnants of butter to fester and multiply and possibly kill you. So I beg you to put your yeast spread in the fridge.

Cows and rocks. I’m getting desperate for content.

We also discussed the merits of the ‘Bravo’ apple which I had never seen or heard of but we have been eating throughout Victoria. I think they’re better than Pink Ladies.
There were also two other things playing on my mind. Firstly not ordering the ‘Aussie sauce’, the only sauce available on the menu at the Tallangatta pub to complement my steak. I have no idea what it would have been but I suspect it might be a hint of pineapple with fried eggs.

Also in Tallangatta there was the ‘Lakoala’ cafe which was shut. I had visions of it being a creative Franco-Australian fusion carnivorous establishment but I never found out.

‘Heads it is’. One of the sculptures in Tumbarumba as part of the sculpture trail.

I spent the afternoon snoozing and generally doing bugger all.

Today's ride: 17 km (11 miles)
Total: 819 km (509 miles)
