The Chyyyrchyk Pass lies 64km South East of Osh, on a high plain, at an altitude of 2400m, surrounded by snow capped mountains, yurts, wild horses and flowing fresh water streams. It is a truly beautiful spot with a viewpoint frequented by many who come there to admire the wonderful views. I had a spare free day in Osh so I suggested to Ed that we ride to the pass as a day trip and a bit of a sightseeing tour of the area. The entire route to the pass from Osh was a gradual climb during which we gained 1500m elevation, and it was worth every pedal stroke! The views along the entire route and at the pass were just breathtaking. Hundreds of sheep being herded by shepherds on horseback. Wild horses grazing and running free. Yurts scattered across the hills, where local tribes have dwelled for centuries. Fresh green grass covering all the distant hills and valleys as far as the eye could see. Villagers going about their daily lives, and their children running towards us excitedly shouting "Hallo! Hallo!". In my opinion, today's ride was the most scenic ride of all the rides I have done on this particular tour from Aktau in Kazakhstan. From the pass, I could see the snow capped peaks of the mountains that form the border with China, approximately 65km away as the crow flies. This was an effective reminder of how far East I had ridden so far. The descent back to Osh was quick, as expected, and also very scenic. As the sun slowly set, Ed and I found a beer and some dinner. Tomorrow will be a day spent packing my bike, resting, and then boarding a flight back to the UK. It will be, finally, time to go home.
