Prelude
This was a very short trip to test my new tent. The first thing I wanted to test was how and where to attach the packed tent on the bike. For this reason, I bought the Blackburn fork cage along with the King Cage Universal Support Bolt, as I have only one mounting point on my fork (used for fork low rider racks - but I wanted to keep the setup as light as possible).
The second thing I wanted to test was how quickly I could deploy the tent, and the last was how efficiently I could pack it up - including drying off any moisture and handling everything that needs to be done before packing.
This was only a three-day trip, and I planned to stay in campgrounds during the nights (so no wild camping), as I wanted access to showers and other campground amenities after the trip. Even though I didn’t want to pack heavily, the panniers weren’t exactly light. I didn’t weigh them, but judging by feel, they were around 7 kg each.
My inventory list:
- Shorts
- T-shirt
- Some underwear + socks
- Long-sleeve merino jersey (as an emergency layer)
- Both long- and short-sleeve merino base layers (in case it got cold at night)
- Short sleeve merino T-shirt (used during rides)
- Sun protection arm sleeves
- Pajamas trousers only
- Medium and small towels
- Some canned food
- Bread rolls
- Garmin Edge navigation
- GoPro camera with spare batteries + charger
- Cup, fork + spoon
- U-lock
- Tent (Columbus Magma 2) + groundsheet
- Sleeping pad (Therm-A-Rest NeoAir XLite NXT Regular Wide)
- Sleeping pad cotton cover sheet
- Quilt (Cumulus Quilt 250)
- The usual repair items (spare tubes, patch kit, etc.)
