Day 0 - Prelude
This wasn't my first multi-day trip, as I've done a couple of multi-day trips before, but have stayed mainly in my family's accommodations. This one is where all the nights are in hotels/hostels.
My main plan was to go from Presov (SK) to Prague (CZ), but because of bad weather, I've chosen an alternative route, that is to go by train to Ostrava (CZ) and from there on the bike to Prague. I've planned this trip some two months ago, precisely checking the road types, checking with Google Street View if the roads are suitable and so on. In 95% of cases I would avoid unpaved roads (such as rough gravel) as they could potentially slow me down based on the quality of the road (IF we could talk about "quality" here). The only time I will choose gravel over paved road is if I've checked it with Google Street View and I knew it was OK to ride on.
I really like planning routes. I've also selected April because it's not too cold (well, at least "SHOULDN'T BE", the April weather COULD be really cold - originally I wanted to go to Prague on 5.4 through Poland, but it was snowing and temperature was around 1 °C, so not a good time to start, so "not too cold" could be translated as "the weather could be anything") and accommodation should be available even on the given days as it's not the main season in this region (not precisely, because Easter this year will be in the middle of April - but I wanted to be in Prague already at this time). So when the first date of departure was called off, I was watching the forecasts for the week ahead (using ventusky.com) and so the next date was chosen: 10.4.
The forecast was favorable. On 11.4 there were no precipitations expected, temperature from 8 °C in the morning to 14 °C in the afternoon. Then on 12.4 it should be even a bit warmer. From 13.4 the daily max in the given region should start to rise from 18 °C to 23 °C on 17.4. But the forecast showed that there could be rain on some day/days between the 15.4 - 18.4. So I knew I would have 1 day off, which is good to relax a bit.
On Thursday 10.4 I arrived in Ostrava, where I'd booked a hostel. There I checked that I had everything I needed (or didn't need) and planned my next day.
I didn't want to travel heavy, so I've got only a pair of rear pannier bags, with a total of around 15 kg and a "service" bag on the top of the rack. With my bike, the total weight was around 32 kg.
My inventory list:
- 2 merino short sleeve base layers
- Merino long sleeve base layer
- Windproof vest
- Windproof light jacket
- Rainproof over-the-jacket
- Long sleeve windproof long bibs
- 3/4 shorts
- Underwear and socks

Money spent: 41.05 EUR (Accommodation) + 6.86 EUR (Train food)
