Chai Prakan - Thaton: Where's the sun?

This morning our surroundings are shrouded in a heavy, cold mist. I thought this was the dry season. We dawdle over coffee and our journals until it finally brightens a bit. The first 20 kilometers aren't noteworthy, the road is flat with a clutter of small buildings on both sides. The surrounding mountains are hidden in fog. When we reach Fang, the only large town on our route, the sun comes out and the countryside becomes more interesting. Amazing what a bit of sunshine can do.

After 50 kilometers we are in Thaton where we will spend the night. At the Garden Home we get a charming little bungalow surrounded by large fruit trees and on the bank of the Kok River. No boutique, no karaoke, but perfect. It doesn't take long for the people at the guest house to organize our boat trip to Chiangrai for us. We will share the boat with another couple and leave tomorrow at 11 a.m.

We had a good day and are looking forward to our boat trip.
