Why did you decide to post here?

Joel Emo

I recognise a few names from other cycling websites and am wondering what made you decide to post here instead?

Also how have you found the experience here compared to posting else where on specific bicycle websites and social media?

I have only had a couple of looks so far at cycleblaze and have been impressed how much easier it is to post and read using my iPhone. Is that the main reason people decided to move here?

I'm just thinking about where I will describe my next tour and looking for feedback.

Regards Joel

Hi Joel, and welcome to CycleBlaze. I recognize your name too, from another cycling website. Some of us were looking for a more inclusive community-run platform with contemporary formatting that is, as you note, easier to use with mobile devices. More and more bike tourers are relying on phones or tablets to post from afar. CycleBlaze looks sharp and performs well on laptops and desktops also.

CycleBlaze is a young website but new features are being added slowly but steadily. We hope you will stick around and join the party when you're ready, the door is open.

Best of luck on your next tour, tailwinds always!

G'day Joel

I endorse everything that Andrea wrote.

BTW there is a facility to copy (but not necessarily delete)  your journals from that other site and post them here.

Are you still following abandoned railway lines?

I haven't posted anything except for here on the forum, but I chose to post here because other forums seemed, I don't know, too intense? There's lots of arguing other places and I don't want to deal with it.

Facebook has a pretty big community but it's really hard to keep up with. There are so many postings every day. It's also not easy to go back and find old posts.

This place seems pretty new, so hopefully those problems don't end up happening here over time as well.

There are two major reasons I post ride reports online:

  1. To share them with actual real world, physical friends - I've done this over the year on various home ISP web sites and blogs (like here) and then on Facebook when that came along.  Free blogs were kinda ugly and hard to use, Facebook doesn't really lend itself to longer posts or longer term viewing.
  2. To share them with other "harder-core" touring cyclists - The "I Love Road Cycling" group in Facebook is a great community but has the same Facebook limitations.  Crazy Old Man on a Bike has the largest group of touring posts and readers but wasn't easy to use and many of the forum discussions caused me to ask on the Bicycling Forum touring group about alternatives - which is where the recommendation to look at Cycleblaze came from.

These days I do mostly shorter tours and "cycling-intensive" weekends and vacations with "less harder-core" cyclists and I've found Cycleblaze to be a great site for doing (1) and (2) above.

Leo,

I have never known you to be a man a few words.   Your post was blank.
