All good things must come to an end! I've really enjoyed this journal and the journey behind it. Thanks for bringing us along!
7 months agoThe goats must love this place, it has more than enough grass for all of them!
7 months agoI was happy to read that you rode this trail. It truly is a gem in Colorado. Too bad there was a closed section. We've ridden it many times but it often can be closed due to flooding from the river or rock slides from the cliffs.
7 months agoI drove through there some years ago and photographed that section completely under water.
7 months agoThe Grant Creek School is the main one. My grandparents' property on South Avenue across from the fort is now the parking lot for a church and part of the Big Sky High School campus, so their farm is long gone. There may be some info on Italian POW's during WWII that were kept at the fort, I know my grandmother did the laundry for them and other detainees, using the porch wringer washer and drying in the freezing Missoula wind.
7 months agoWe're visiting the Fort Missoula Museum tomorrow. Let us know if there are any connections to you or your family we should be sure to see.
7 months agoI'm from Libby, but my mother was born on a dairy up Grant Creek outside of Missoula, in the house that Jeanette Rankin, the first female US senator, had lived in. My grandparents then moved 'into town' by Fort Missoula. There's a museum there with the original Grant Creek School. I still have lots of family members in and around Missoula, plus I went to university there. A former neighbor was one of the early workers at ACA and he mapped out the Great Divide Trail. And a late great friend and Burmese scholar went to the same Target Range school as my mom. So I have lots of connections to Missoula.
7 months agoThanks. I was going to try to look it up, but I forgot. We're back near your hometown, aren't we?
7 months agoThat is a fun fact. I never would have thought of that.

7 months agoDid you know that the letters on the mountain sides originated so pilots would know where to drop the mail before continuing on? I find that a fun fact.
7 months agoHopefully rain from the tail end of hurricane Hillary will clear some of the smoke you are dealing with.
7 months agoThank you, Bob.
7 months agoKerry, I believe those large boulders were transported there by the glaciers during the ice age when the top part of the U.S. was covered with a thick layer of ice.

Kara has taken down the ad for Jeanna's bike. Does it have the same fenders as your bike? I'd like to go with a wider tire. Kara said Jeanna's bike has Gatorskins on it, not the Mondials you have listed here? I've been a longtime Marathon Racer fan. I've tried the Gatorskins and Hardskins on each of the Phoenix bikes and have decided they are too rough riding of a tire for me. Each time I get back on my old K frame bike with the Racers, the softer ride is obvous. Blair and I have been riding a couple of times a week in Tucson. He has Top Contact tires on his bike and says it's a plush ride. I'd like a plush ride also!
