I'm happy that you had a good experience with the Wyoming wind today. That section you just rode can be so windy that you can hardly bike through it - I'm speaking from experience. Best of luck with the remainder of your Wyoming wind traverse,

3 days agoThe Hartsel Lodge is the 2nd place you have stayed where I have also - I stayed there on my Transam tour in 2015. I'm glad to see it is still in business, it was for sale in 2015 and there was considerable doubt that it would continue to exist as a tourist lodge.

Thanks Bill, I thought you'd know!
1 week agoAbsolute Bikes is a must visit while you are in town. Google tells me you are only a half mile away. You might have found them already. I think Salida would be a good place for high quality camping gear. Perhaps they would have a suggestion on locating replacement gear.
Carve a little time out of your day to drink a beverage and soak up the vibes by the river next to the shop.
Plant. Horsetails. They make good camping pot scrubbers.

That brings back some memories - in 2017 I stayed at Sargents, also in a tiny cabin - mine was on the opposite (east) side of the Trading Post from yours and it looks like it's a storage shed. I was riding the Western Express route with 2 others, and we met 2 couples riding the Great Divide route. It was challenging for us to ride up the road to Monarch Pass the next morning, but that's nothing compared to the difficulty of riding the gravel routes you ride to the passes. Enjoying your journal,

2 weeks agoHowdy Rosemary. I foolishly looked at a profile - I suddenly felt sick because the scale is “k”. Fortunately I know realise “k” doesn’t mean kilometres! Ha Ha. Hope you’re having fun. Love Stew
2 weeks agoPossibly bitter rubber weed. That said, in that area there are something around 100 yellow many petal wildflowers, and I am certainly no expert, so it is wide open to other IDs.
