Yes, getting mauled by animals would be a lot worse than arrested by polite but steely bicycle police. I am such a rule follower that I was mortified: Dave not so much.
3 weeks agoWe did this at a forest in southern England once and found out later that we had let ourselves in to a wild animal park where the animals roamed free and the public were in enclosed vehicles. Fortunately for us nothing awful ensued, but still......

4 weeks agoLyle, we read your comment just as we were finishing up Tea at the Macintosh at the Willow - which meant we didn’t need to eat for two days after that. But we really enjoyed Glasgow and would happily spend more time there.I tend to go for authenticity rather than the tourist scene. We have a few nights in Edinburgh in a few weeks so we will be able to compare the two. Scotland has exceeded our expectations and we feel it’s a great place to tour. The people are not dour or mean! Cairngorms Park has been great and we still have three weeks left in Scotland - so lots to see and experience.
4 weeks agoBecause of that, I have gotten in the habit of specifically commenting about bicycle storage when I do booking.com reviews, so other riders can pick it up if they search for that.
4 weeks agoSo lovely to meet you both! Can’t believe how much we had in common.. I wish you both the very best on the rest of your journey. 🚲
4 weeks agoHave to agree with you about accommodation and bikes. So often on Booking .com it’s necessary to troll through reviews with the ‘bike’ filter on to see if anything comes up related to storage. Generally places are good, and I only recall one memorable occasion in Rostock when, with an incipient thunderstorm cracking overhead, our host was nein, nein, nein. Fortunately we got our money back and repaired to an upmarket hostelry down the road that had no qualms about storing our transport mode. Happy travels.
4 weeks agoSo glad to see you have adopted the hood under the helmet approach to rainy weather. It makes a huge difference, eh?
