Of course we're interested in the details of train travel. They're the source of the best stories. Between you and the Grampies' nightmare yesterday it's made it really worth dipping into the journals these past two days. We have our own long journey (Pescara to Ventimiglia) coming up in a few days though, so this makes me start to feel anxious.

You made it, and it sounds like you’re sort of chuckling about it now. Inevitable hassles of touring but once you’re on the bikes more or less full time all will be sweet.

Train days are sooo stressful. Ours was yesterday, when we got on the wrong train and travelled over 100 extra kilometres to finally work our way back to where we had made the error and start over again. I mean, we got there in the end, but oh were we ever tired. Glad your (first) day went reasonably well. Wishing you luck on the rest.

This looks like (a) wonderful trip(s) ! Safe journey (a bit warmer weather) and smooth train rides with the cycles 🚲. We start cycling mid of June plan is for 6-7 weeks from Bretagne, Normandie, Picardie, Champagne 🥂 - Nancy back to Bempflingen. We went to Scottland 2022, similar tour. ( by car) have a great time Angelika and Peter

I had no idea you did the Kumano Kudo Trail last year. I did it about 6 years ago. I had a great time as well.

I thought it was the Grampies that came up with the jammer rating. I'm happy to hear the origins, as the saying is now imbedded in a number of journals! It's a fun Cycle Blaze tradition!

Don't stop. Just keep going until you can't. I just turned 68 and plan to enjoy cycling as long as I can, even when it takes a day or two to recover from a long trek. There is nothing (other than hiking) that replaces the joy of being on a bike going through beautiful country and places.

That's my belief also. It certainly wasn't us. Neither of us is a jam fan anyway.

We concur with Tricia. At 77 we long ago gave up on camping (Dodie's bad knees were also a factor), and switched to ebikes about 6 years ago. We recently have cut our daily distances down to no more than 50 km, unless we get lost, and try to stick to flatter terrain. We figure on another 5- 10 years. Don't give up, adapt!
