Yup, that’s the road alright. Thanks for reminding me of this amazing day. We still have hopes of coming up this way again, if Canadians ever let Americans in their door again. Surely that will happen someday?
3 years agoIt is a great coyote spot! This is very close to our house and we hear them all the time, and see them in the yard quite often. As you’ve also seen, the snack supply is endless!
3 years agoSo happy to hear you liked this ride! One small point of clarification on the road closure (that you probably already knew). It’s closed to ‘motor vehicles’ from Dec to mid June. This is one of the ‘go to’ rides for all roadies in the area as soon as the pass is clear of snow (sometimes mid May, most years early June. On a weekend there will be hundreds of roadies enjoying the car free ride (55 km closure gate to closure gate, great 110 km full day with a ride up each side of he pass)You need to come back and ride the south side of the pass. It’s even better than the north side IMHO. Great three day tour loop from Canmore to Bragg Creek, Longview then back over Highwood pass from the south. About 350 km’s ... but it involves camping 😳
3 years agoJust found your journal for this trip. Sounds like you had the same experience we did along the stretch from Princeton to Kamloops! Absolutely fabulous and very unique country. This day was one of K’s and my ‘top 5’ days on our 2015 x-Canada ride and the day before (Princeton to Merritt) almost made the cut too!

5 years agoWe appreciate you keeping up your journal so conscientiously and have enjoyed reading your descriptions of rides that are familiar to us. Also many thanks for the details of your hike in Mt. Revelstoke park. We've never been there, but will now plan a trip. There are gorgeous hikes here in the Nelson area, but usually require long drives up rough gravel roads to the trail heads. You picked a good time to finish your tour, as the air quality here deteriorated sharply on Saturday because of new fires. It was great to meet both of you and we look forward to following your autumn by the sea.

I’d forgotten about highway 5A to Kamloops, but not this incredible road. And no, I didn’t know that it opens earlier for cyclists. It’s like McKenzie Pass down here, which is open to cyclists a few weeks earlier than for cars every year. Highwood must be really astonishing in the spring when there’s still snow up there.
