The lesson I learned is thereās never a bike shop right when you need one. And, they are unlikely to have exactly what you need without waiting potentially for days. Better to be self sufficient.

3 months agoI learned in 2016 to always carry at least one set of spare brake pads. I was lucky that time; the only shop I found when I realized I needed new ones ASAP specialized in mountain bikes but my bike's brakes required very common Shimano pads often used for MTBs.

3 months agoIām very happy that I made it there and took the boat trip and hike. The boat in the morning was very special. On the return the wind kicked up and it was no longer comfortable outside.

3 months agoBeautiful photos Andrew- we did the trail about this time last year and renamed it the Bad taste Trail, though, in fact, the beer and the pies were really memorable. Hope the rest of your ride goes well and that the big climb doesn't require that phrase Iāve been reading Canadians are embracing right now- āelbows upā.

Kaiteriteri is one of our fave places, mainly because of the MTB park there, but easy access to the Abel Tasman track is a big plus.
