I wish! I usually rely on skate skiing for winter fitness but the ski season started late then took a 6-week hiatus. It looked like cycling might be okay, then the cold temperatures and salt came back. So I’m not ready and less than 2 months are left!

We loved Bilbao, especially Puppy! Are you getting ready for the hills?

I suspect you will see more colour in May than we did in November. Enjoy your trip!

We will be starting our ride east from Bilbao in early May.

Wow, what a beautiful shot. We will be there in May. Can’t wait.

I think there was more than one room that faced this spectacular view! And I unashamedly copied your photo.

Yup, you raved about it and said you'd stayed there twice. I'd stay there again too. And buy more cookies from the nuns.

Good luck! It was memorable and I'd stay there again.

I remember reading about that. One advantage of electronic maps is that they are usually up-too-date.

This might even be the same room we stayed in, but they’ve changed the furnishings. https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/andalucia2004/arcos-de-la-frontera/#17503_wg4hzop4zsptcac3g03e9kjb8cm

I thought I recognized this view. Same place we stayed.

This place again! I’d forgotten all about this great journal until you posted the routes in the forum for Steve. It’s great to reread it.

We’re expecting to return to Berja this fall. We’ll have to remember this place.

I should check in our storage unit to see if we have the Michelin map we used in 2004. Same scale, but an earlier version (published in 1994, if I remember right) made before the Zahara reservoir had filled. It showed the road south of El Gastor as continuing on south, which was annoying when we came to a dead end facing the reservoir at the end of a long, hot day that we meant to end in Zahara.

I’m disappointed we didn’t manage to do it. Maybe someday we’ll be passing through again. It might be worth flying somewhere via Malaga just to do that walk!
