Lyle,, what are you using for navigation this time?
2 weeks agohey, it's the proof of life picture!
2 weeks agogood view of the flags...
2 weeks agoits true though that there is always at least one train story per trip!
2 weeks agoThe little jewels encourage us to wander aimlessly, don’t they?
2 weeks agoThis … is … what … it’s … all about. This is why we love to travel by bicycle.
2 weeks ago“Whupped my ass” - love it. I felt the same way after a hard day of navigation between Ghent and Brussels in 2019. I was so “whupped” I consumed not one, but two, main course pasta dishes with my evening meal. You have my sympathies on this particularly challenging day.
2 weeks agoLyle, the Thule stand in the “bike shop” - it works well for you? When we fly our newer tandem with SNS couplers, our tandem breaks down into two cases which means the rebuild is a bit of work. Being able to work on a lot of it off the ground like that would be an attractive proposition. Not sure if the stand will fit in either of our two 26” square bike cases, I’ll check it out.
2 weeks agoSure beats the bubble-wrapped (but successful) transport of our fixed tandem on our 2019 tour in the Netherlands!
2 weeks agoG’day Lyle and Kirsten, I’m catching up on your tour having only learned about it a couple of days ago. I hope that you don’t mind if I ask a few questions closer to the start of your tour.
On the Mannmade bikes (very nice BTW, note to self to check out their website), are the steerer stops custom to Mannmade or are they third-party? If so, which one? We tour with a CoMotion tandem and I haven’t been impressed with the commercially available steerer stops that I’ve seen to date. As you can imagine, when the tandem is rear loaded, it can twist and topple on a dime if we’re not careful.
Was raised in a Catholic family and don't remember anything special the Sunday after Easter. When I searched, most sites don't list anything for this day. However, I did come across this:
"Divine Mercy Sunday (Sunday after Easter)
Instituted by St. John Paul II, this day emphasizes God’s boundless mercy, inspired by the visions of St. Faustina Kowalska. Many Catholics pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet."
Faustina was a Polish nun. Given the relative recency, It's possibly not something celebrated in North America.
Neat label idea! It would be fun to see how they change over the years.

Lyle and Kristen, good morning. Six of us, including my wife Joanne and I on our tandem, rode from Trieste (Muggia) to Pula in September 2023. Our route included the Parenzana rail trail that Janez mentioned above but it also overlapped with your route quite a bit. I can offer some route and restaurant tips if you’d like, let me know if you would like them.
