Laza - The twelfth step ... Three months in Spain - CycleBlaze

Laza

Another ride through some lovely countryside on quiet back roads.  But it was freezing when we started out just after eight o'clock.  It would have been great to start an hour or two later but the lady at reception made it clear that the albergue had to be empty by eight.  She wasn't there when we left but we didn't want to risk being caught staying late.  Who knows what might have happened to us.

The ride started with a climb but that wasn't enough to warm us up and we soon had to stop to add a few extra layers of clothing.  It was another day of more than eight hundred meters of climbing but it ended off with a massive six hundred meter descent over twelve kilometers through a lovely forested fold in the mountain.

Adding extra layers.

It started warming up as the clouds cleared.

The roads were narrow but we hardly had any traffic the whole day.

The purple heather reminded me of the Fynbos vegetation in South Africa.

The Little Wire Bicycle is also a pilgrim.

We have given the local albergue a miss for tonight and are staying in a very nice pension.  It's a chance to catch up on sleep - last night's double rocked like a dinghy in a stormy sea every time one of us moved so sleep was rather fractured.

Today's ride: 42 km (26 miles)
Total: 1,349 km (838 miles)
