Frómista

I am pleased we decided to stay at the monastery.  It was quite a change from most of the other albergues at which we have stayed.  The monks running it have there motives for being kind but that doesn't hide the kindness.

New province.

More poppies but no wheat this time.

Most of the ride was on quiet roads, including a lovely section of unpaved road that stretched from Calzadilla de la Cueza to Carrión de los Condes.

We had no real idea how far we would go but eventually called it a day in Frómista, the most southerly town on the Ruta Frances.  We are at the Albergue Luz de Frómista which we chose based on the fact that it has a kitchen.  Gabriel, the hostalero, seems to be quite gentle and caring, going so far as to care for pilgrims' blisters and aches and pains.  He also manages to remember my name, which makes him likeable in my book.

The church opposite our digs, the Iglesia de San Pedro, built in the Gothic style in the seventeenth century but with a few strange bits tagged on.
