We spend a day on Lindau Island - Planned Spontaneity - CycleBlaze

We spend a day on Lindau Island

After a comfortable night listening to the rain off and on and feeling very cozy being indoors, we woke up to clearing weather and the promise of another beautiful day in our adventure.  We started by riding back to the bridge that would take us onto the island and then decided we would go find the campsite that was 4 km east along the lake shore.  That way we could check in, set up our tent and stash our gear, making it much easier to cycle onto the island and lock up the bikes whenever we were walking about.

Most of the track on Lindau Island was walking. I included it in the riding total for the day.

We arrived at the campsite as everyone in the bike camping section was leaving, so we had our pick of any spot.

We chose the best spot for protection from rain, wind or sun as well as good privacy for stashing our stuff

Now we cycled back to the island and spent the better part of the day exploring.  Lindau is a very touristic island, small enough that you can explore it on foot in one day, but has so many interesting things that you could easily spend additional days.

When you first come onto the island by the main bridge, there is a beautiful park on the waterfront

I'm sorry, I just have to take a picture (zoomed in) of sailing whenever I can

Foothills of the Swiss Alps, Austria would be a little to the left

Looking back to the northwest and the German mainland

Looking north toward where we were a day or so before

As we walk (southwest) down the western side of the island, we eventually reach the westernmost point of the island where we will walk southeast toward the old harbour entrance at the south end of the island

On this westernmost point are fortifications and impressive buildings

I'm keeping a watch out (for more sailboats)

I shouldn't let Erika have the camera, it results in too many pictures of me

And now we are looking at Austria across the southeastern tip of the Bodensee. Behind those foothills are the Austrian alps

Very touristic as Achim would have said. But the sunbrellas do look promising
Heart 0 Comment 0
Yes, indeed

I don't remember what this was about. Some kind of Rapunzel thing, I think?
Heart 0 Comment 0
Now we are working our way around to the Lion's side of the harbour

Hard to believe we would be seeking shelter from the rain later in the day, given how beautiful it was all morning and early afternoon

Before we moved into the commercial centre of the island, I had to see the remaining edge on the east side.

The eastern edge consisted of Yacht club, very nice parks and finally, toward the bridge, the banking centre

Another "bench of the day" in the parkland in front of very nice hotels and such

We decided it was time for something to eat. Just in time, too, as the rain came and went while we were under the umbrellas. You can see where they have put out glasses of something sweet enough to attract and trap wasps

The waiters were wearing lederhosen

Once the rain had passed, we made our way back to the campsite.

It didn't appear to have rained much at all at the campsite while we were gone.

The tenting area was a lot busier than it had been in the morning when we left

Ready to go the next morning. You can see I got better and better at packing the bikes over the two months of touring. This was the last morning I would be fully loading the bikes
