A Wonderful ride to Deggendorf

There were lots of cyclists at the hotel this morning, they were all in high excitement and starting their first day's ride on their way to Vienna.  All were on supported rides but with a variety of companies.  It is such a popular thing to do and it seeems to be always be in that direction.  I am surprised that there are fewer people on this German part of the Radweg as it is really so lovely - we only saw a handful of touring cyclists all day and none of them seemed to be supported.

What a beautiful day it was.  The sky was blue with just a few wisps of clouds.  It was only 5 degrees when we started but has now warmed up to about 15.  We put on most of the clothes we have with us but Ken has lost one of his gloves - eventually when we came to a supermarket he went in and came out with a pair of gardening gloves!

When we came out of Passau  as we snaked our way under motorways and train lines and over bridges that it really is a big city.  Once clear of the city we were in that perfectly neat german landscape.  At this point the Danube is still contained by hills as it has been since Linz and remained so nearly all day.  We found a Backerie for a coffee - Ken thinks that ladies working in them have a special happiness gene as they are always smiling and invariably pleasant - or may be it is just the delicious smell of warm bread that makes them like this

This is so German

Kathleen ClassenWe really are so lucky to be doing this. The weather! We had the same clear blue skies and chilly beginning. It is supposed to be warmer here tomorrow, a high of 24, so I may be peeling off some layers.
